VALUE
Lesson 1: Practice Shading with Line
I recommend doing the Drawing course first and doing all of the lessons in order as everything builds on what came before.
In this lesson, students will develop confidence in drawing, learn new vocabulary, and understand how to create basic forms of value. Students will know:
- What Hatching, Cross Hatching, Stippling, Scumbling, and Tonal shading are, how to use them, and when to use them.
- How to create a gradient.
- How to make an object look 3D
Time Estimate: One 45 minute class
Lesson 2: Tonal Value on Basic Shapes
In this lesson, students will develop confidence in drawing, learn new vocabulary, and understand how to create basic forms of value. Students will know:
- What Hatching, Cross Hatching, Stippling, Scumbling, and Tonal shading are, how to use them, and when to use them.
- How to create a gradient.
- How to make an object look 3D
Time Estimate: Three 45 minute class
Lesson 3: Texture
In this lesson, students will develop confidence in drawing, learn new vocabulary, and understand how to create basic forms of value. Students will know:
- What is texture
- How to draw various types of texture
Time Estimate: Four 45 minute class
Lesson 4: Tonal Value
In this lesson, students will develop confidence in drawing, learn new vocabulary, and begin to identify, if not master:
- Different tones on real objects
- Different edges and transitions between tones
- How to apply various values
Time Estimate: Five 45 minute class
Lesson 5: Tonal Value in Reverse
In this lesson, students will develop confidence in drawing, learn new vocabulary, and understand how to create basic forms of value. Using white pencil crayon on black paper Students will know:
- how to create a shadow by only shading in the light.
- How to create a gradient in pencil crayon.
- How to make an object look 3D on black paper
Time Estimate: Three 45 minute class
